Product Resources

--------------------- MOLD AND MILDEW ON CUSHIONS IS NOT A VALID WARRANTY CLAIM ---------------------

For a new spill or stain on your Sunbrella fabric:

1. Blot (don’t rub) liquid spills with a clean, dry cloth. For oil-based spills, apply an absorbent such as corn starch, then remove with a straight edge.

2. Spray on a mild cleaning solution of soap (such as Dawn or Woolite) and water.

3. Rinse the fabric thoroughly to remove all soap residue and air dry

If that doesn’t work, try this:

1. Cleaning Removable Fabric

Method 1: Hand Washing

Soak fabric in a solution of ¼ cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water. Use a sponge or very soft bristle brush to lightly agitate the stain. Then rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue, and allow fabric to air dry.

Method 2: Machine Washing

Some removable casings can be washed in the washing machine, however, consult the furniture manufacturer before removing the casing as cushion construction may vary. To wash, first close all zippers. Machine wash in cold water on the delicate cycle with normal amounts of mild laundry detergent. For severe mold or mildew, add 1 cup of bleach. Allow fabric to air dry.

2. Cleaning Non-Removable Fabric

Prepare a solution of ¼ cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water. Use a soft bristle brush to clean, allowing the cleaning solution to soak into the fabric. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and allow fabric to air dry.

3. Cleaning the Cushion Core

The foam core inside the cushion is made from an inert material, which makes it chemically impossible for mold to grow inside the foam. If mold is present on the surface of the cushion core, use a rough towel or a scrub sponge to briskly scrub the dirty area using a solution of warm water mixed with mild dish detergent. After cleaning the surface of the cushion core, use a high pressure hose to rinse, and air dry.

Mold and Mildew Stains

Sunbrella fabrics do not promote mildew growth, however, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances if not removed from the fabric.

To remove mold or mildew:

1. Prepare a solution of 1 cup of bleach and ¼ cup mild soap per gallon of water.

2. Spray on entire area and allow to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.

3. Clean entire surface area with a sponge, clean towel or very soft bristle brush.

4. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and air dry.

For severe mold/mildew growth, bleach quantities may be increased.

It is best to clean the entire surface area of the fabric to avoid water rings and stains.

Helpful Hints:

1. Avoid scrubbing, hard bristle brushes or any other abrasive cleaning method.

2. Sunbrella should only be allowed to air dry.

3. Protect the area around your Sunbrella fabric when using bleach or other chemical solvents that may discolor non-Sunbrella fabrics. Always rinse Sunbrella thoroughly.

4. Bleach can have harmful effects on the natural environment around you. Please follow all safety and environmental precautions according to the bleach label.

5. If fabric has some wrinkling, use an iron on the synthetic setting. As iron temperatures may vary, first test a small inconspicuous area before ironing the entire piece.

6. DO NOT use a steamer or iron set to steam setting.

CLEANING YOUR OUTDOOR FURNITURE

You Will Need:

• A garden hose

• A bucket of warm water

• A nylon, soft-bristle brush

• Non-bleach liquid laundry detergent or mild dish soap

You Might Want:

• Mildew remover and/or Goo Gone (or similar product) for mold, sap, and other tough stains

Step 1:

First, remove the cushions and set aside. Thoroughly spray your furniture with the garden hose (don’t worry, it’s waterproof!) to fully wet it down. If you do not have a garden hose, a bucket of warm water will work, too.

Step 2:

Mix ¼ cup of the detergent or dish soap with 1 gallon of warm water and stir until you see bubbles/foam on the surface of the water.

Step 3:

Dip your soft-bristle brush into the soapy solution and lightly scrub the dirt and grime from your resin wicker. The soapy solution will help break apart the dirt and make it easier to spray away later.

Pro Tip: Make sure you get the cracks between the weave! Because your furniture is hand-woven, there are lots of little nooks and crannies for dirt to hide. Try to really get the bristles in there and clean out those hard-to-reach spots!

Step 4:

For mildew and tree sap, you will need to use different cleaners. Try a mildew remover like Tilex for moldy spots, and try Goo-Gone or a similar product for sticky messes like tree sap. The trick with using these products is that you need to rinse them away as soon as you are done with them! Prolonged exposure to these cleaners can leave your resin wicker a little faded and/or bleached.

Step 5:

After brushing the furniture, spray it down with the garden hose or a bucket of water until all the soapy residue is gone. Let your patio set dry in the sun for at least 2 hours.

Step 6:

Once the furniture is dry, put your cushions back on and enjoy your clean furniture!

IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER TO CLEAN OUTDOOR FURNITURE!
